Will a store-bought night guard work?
Usually not well. A bulky, unfitted guard can change your bite and sometimes make clenching worse. A custom appliance is made from a scan of your teeth and adjusted to your bite so it unloads the joint properly.
Can TMD cause headaches and ear pain?
Yes. The jaw muscles and joint sit close to the ear and the temples, so TMD commonly shows up as headaches, ear pain or fullness, and ringing that has nothing to do with an ear infection.
Will I need surgery?
