Why You’re Here

You Are Not Weak or Difficult. You Are Anxious, and That Is Common

Many of our patients came to us after years of avoiding the dentist. A bad experience as a child, a strong gag reflex, a fear of needles, or simply the sounds and smells can make an ordinary visit feel impossible. Avoidance then turns small problems into big ones, which makes the next visit scarier.

Sedation breaks that cycle. It lets you get the care you need in fewer, calmer visits, and for many patients the first sedated appointment is what finally makes regular visits possible without it.

Comfort is already built into how we work: the Wand for gentle numbing, headphones, unhurried scheduling. Sedation is the next layer when that is not enough.

What to Expect

Sedation Is Planned, Monitored and Explained

Before any sedation, Dr. Odinsky reviews your health history and medications and explains exactly what you will feel. With nitrous oxide you breathe through a small mask, feel calm within minutes, and are back to normal minutes after it is turned off.

With IV sedation you arrive with a companion, are monitored throughout, and rest afterward until you are steady. Most patients remember little of the appointment and describe it as the easiest dental visit they have had.

Either way, the goal is the same: get the work done comfortably so you can move on to simple, regular care.

Common Questions

Sedation Dentistry Questions, Answered

How much does sedation dentistry cost in Fort Lee, NJ?

Nitrous oxide is a small per-visit fee. IV sedation is priced by the length of the appointment. Both are quoted in writing before your visit. Sedation is usually not covered by dental insurance, so we offer CareCredit and Cherry financing. See financing details.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes, when it is matched to your health history and monitored. Nitrous oxide is one of the safest sedatives in medicine and clears in minutes. IV sedation is administered with continuous monitoring of your vital signs. We review medications and conditions beforehand and will tell you if sedation is not appropriate for you.

Will I be asleep?

With nitrous oxide, no. You are awake, relaxed and able to respond. With IV sedation you are in a deeply relaxed, sleepy state and can still respond to instructions, but most patients remember very little afterward.

Can I drive after sedation?

After nitrous oxide, yes. It leaves your system within minutes. After IV sedation, no. You need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.

Is sedation available for children?

Nitrous oxide is commonly used for children who need help staying calm and is very well tolerated. Dr. Odinsky will discuss whether it fits your child at the visit.

Do I need to be a current patient?

No. New patients are welcome, and many first-time patients start with a sedated visit. Call (201) 592-6222 or use the form above to schedule.
