Composite Dental Fillings in Fort Lee, NJ: Tooth-Colored, Mercury-Free and Bonded to Last

A filling should disappear into the tooth, not sit in it as a lump of metal. At Infinity Dental Wellness every filling is tooth-colored composite, mercury-free and BPA-free, bonded in thin layers so Dr. Jonathan Odinsky can remove only the decay and keep the rest of your tooth.

Why You’re Here

You Need a Filling, and You Do Not Want Mercury in It

Silver amalgam fillings are roughly half mercury by weight. They also do not bond to the tooth, so the dentist has to cut extra undercuts to hold them in, and over time the metal expands and contracts, which is why so many amalgam-filled teeth crack.

Composite is different. It bonds chemically to enamel and dentin, so only the decayed part of the tooth is removed and the filling reinforces what is left. It is shade-matched, so nobody sees it, and the materials we use are mercury-free and BPA-free.

If you already have silver fillings, we replace them with composite under the IAOMT SMART protocol.

When a Composite Filling Is the Right Fix

Composite Fillings Are Ideal When You Have

  • A new cavity caught early on an X-ray or with CariVu imaging
  • A small chip or worn edge on a front tooth
  • An old silver filling you want replaced with a biocompatible material
  • A leaking or cracked filling that needs redoing
  • A small area of enamel wear at the gumline
  • A tooth where a crown would be overkill

How It Works

A Composite Filling at Infinity Dental Wellness, in One Visit

Most fillings take under an hour and are done the same day as your exam if you prefer.

  1. Diagnose

Low-dose digital X-rays and radiation-free CariVu show how deep the decay goes before anything is touched.

  2. Numb Gently

The Wand delivers anesthetic slowly and comfortably. Headphones and nitrous oxide are available if you want them.

  3. Remove Only Decay

Dr. Odinsky removes the diseased tooth structure and nothing more, then may treat the cavity with ozone to reduce bacteria.

  4. Bond in Layers

Composite is placed in thin increments and light-hardened one at a time, the biomimetic technique that limits shrinkage and seals the tooth.

  5. Shape and Polish

The filling is shaped to your bite and polished so it feels like tooth, not filling.

  6. Done

You can eat normally once the numbness wears off. No waiting for a metal filling to set.

Materials

Why Composite Beats Amalgam on Every Count That Matters to You

  • No mercury, no metal. Composite resin and ceramic-filled composites contain neither.
  • BPA-free. We choose composites formulated without BPA derivatives.
  • Bonded, not wedged. Composite adheres to the tooth, so less healthy structure is removed and the tooth is reinforced rather than weakened.
  • Invisible. Shade-matched to your enamel.
  • Repairable. A chipped composite can often be repaired in place instead of replaced.
  • For larger areas, ceramic. When decay is too big for a filling, a lab-made ceramic inlay or onlay is the next step, still metal-free.

Common Questions

Composite Filling Questions, Answered

How much does a composite filling cost in Fort Lee, NJ?

The fee depends on the size of the filling and how many surfaces of the tooth it covers, and we quote it before starting. Most dental insurance plans cover composite fillings at least in part. We also offer CareCredit and Cherry financing, and members of our Dental Wellness Plan receive 20% off. See financing and insurance details.

How long do composite fillings last?

Well-placed composite fillings commonly last seven to ten years or more, and small ones often much longer. Layered bonding, a good seal and regular checkups are what extend their life.

Are composite fillings safe?

Yes. They contain no mercury or metal, and we use BPA-free formulations. Composite has been the standard tooth-colored material for decades.

Should I replace my silver fillings?

Amalgam fillings that are cracked, leaking or have decay underneath should be replaced. Intact ones are a personal decision many of our patients make to reduce mercury exposure. Either way, removal is done under SMART protections. Learn about safe mercury removal.

Does getting a filling hurt?

The tooth is numbed first, using the Wand for a gentle injection. You may feel vibration and pressure but not pain. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterward is normal and fades.

Do I need to be a current patient?

No. New patients are welcome, and a filling can often be done the same day as your exam. Call (201) 592-6222 or use the form above to schedule.
