IV Sedation · Fort Lee, NJ

IV Sedation Dentistry in Fort Lee, NJ, for the Visits You Could Not Face Any Other Way

When anxiety is severe, or a procedure is long and complex, IV sedation lets you rest deeply while the work gets done. Medication is delivered through a small IV line and adjusted throughout, you are monitored the entire time, and most patients remember very little. At Infinity Dental Wellness, Dr. Jonathan Odinsky reserves it for the patients who truly need it and explains everything first.

Why You’re Here

You Have Real Work to Get Done, and Sitting Through It Awake Is Not an Option

Some patients have avoided the dentist so long that a single visit now means several extractions, implants or a full-mouth restoration. Others have anxiety severe enough that nitrous oxide barely registers. For both, IV sedation is what makes care possible.

Sedative medication is delivered directly into the bloodstream, so it takes effect quickly and can be adjusted moment to moment. You drift into a deeply relaxed, sleepy state. You can still breathe on your own and respond to instructions, but time passes without you, and hours of dentistry feel like minutes.

It is also the way to consolidate a long treatment plan into one or two visits instead of many.

What to Expect

An IV Sedation Visit at Infinity Dental Wellness

Planned in advance, monitored throughout, and finished with a rest before you go home.

  1. Consultation

A full review of your health history and medications, the plan for the treatment itself, and clear pre-visit instructions.

  2. Preparation

You fast as instructed, wear comfortable clothing, and arrive with someone who can drive you home and stay with you.

  3. The IV

A small line is placed in the arm or hand. Sedation begins within minutes and is adjusted to keep you comfortable for the whole appointment.

  4. Monitoring

Your oxygen, heart rate and blood pressure are tracked continuously by the team throughout the visit.

  5. Treatment

Everything planned is completed while you rest. Local anesthetic is still used, so there is no pain afterward from the sedation wearing off.

  6. Recovery

You rest in the office until you are steady, then go home with your companion. Plan on taking the rest of the day off.

Safety

Sedation Is a Medical Procedure, and We Treat It Like One

IV sedation is not offered casually. Dr. Odinsky reviews your medical history, medications and any conditions that affect sedation, and will tell you if it is not appropriate or if a medical clearance is needed first.

During the visit you are never left unattended, monitoring runs continuously, and the medication can be adjusted or reversed as needed. Local anesthetic is used alongside sedation so your comfort continues after the sedation wears off.

For milder anxiety or shorter visits, nitrous oxide is usually the better fit, and we will say so. Compare both sedation options.

Common Questions

IV Sedation Questions, Answered

How much does IV sedation cost in Fort Lee, NJ?

IV sedation is priced by the length of the appointment and quoted in writing at your consultation, separately from the dental treatment itself. It is usually not covered by dental insurance, so we offer CareCredit and Cherry financing. See financing details.

Is IV sedation safe?

For appropriately screened patients, yes. Your health history is reviewed in advance, vital signs are monitored continuously during the visit, and the medication is adjustable. We will tell you if sedation is not appropriate for you or if a physician clearance is needed first.

Will I be completely asleep?

Not in the sense of general anesthesia. You are in a deeply relaxed, sleepy state, breathing on your own and able to respond, but most patients remember little or nothing of the appointment.

What do I need to do before and after?

Follow the fasting instructions, take or hold medications as directed at your consultation, and arrange for a companion to drive you home and stay with you. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day.

How long does the sedation last?

As long as the appointment needs. Once the IV is stopped you become alert within a short rest period, but you will feel drowsy for several hours, which is why a driver is required.

Do I need to be a current patient?

No. New patients are welcome, and the consultation can be your first visit. Call (201) 592-6222 or use the form above to schedule.
